ROOSEVELT, N.J. - Authorities are trying to determine who spray-painted graffiti on the pedestal holding the bust of President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Roosevelt. Some of the graffiti is anti-Semitic and some of it makes references to the Depression. The Monmouth County community was founded as an experimental farming-industrial cooperative during Roosevelt's Depression-era administration. The government transplanted mostly Jewish workers from New York City to the rural town that was named after the president.
Graffiti was also painted on the nearby post office. Officials believe the vandalism took place between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning
